n a very depressing bit of news for my fellow Arrested Development fans, series creator Mitch Hurwitz has decided not to return to run the series, despite Showtime's offer to pick the show up. This move very likely means that the chances of the series continuing are over. For months now there has been a lot of speculation about the negotiations with Showtime for the beloved but ratings challenged series to move to the cable channel from its previous home on Fox. Many reports had also noted that Hurwitz was feeling burnt out and might not want to continue on, and that without him, the possibilities of Arrested continuing were slim.

Hurwitz has now confirmed to Variety his decision to leave the series. There have reportedly been some arguments over money issues between Hurwitz and 20th Century Fox, who produces Arrested, and financial aspects may have played a part in Hurwitz's decision. However, more than anything, Hurwitz said he simply felt unable to give his all to the series anymore. Commenting on the loyal following the show has, Hurwitz told Variety, "The fans have been so ardent in their devotion and in return I've given everything I can to the show in order to try to live up to their expectations. I finally reached a point where I felt I couldn't continue to deliver that on a weekly basis."

While the article notes that executive producer/series narrator Ron Howard has asked Hurwitz to remain connected to the show as a consultant should it continue without him, the chances of that happening seem extremely unlikely. Showtime head Bob Greenwalt had previously stated that he would not want the series without Hurwitz. Even more damaging to the show finding another home is executive producer Jim Valleley, who plays a key creative role in the series, saying he wouldn't continue on the show without Hurwitz remaining too. Sad to say, but it's likely time to really say goodbye to the Bluth family. While Hurwitz's decision is an extremely frustrating one for those of us who'd love the show to continue, the idea of it going on without him also seems highly questionable.

I was watching "The Office" the other day and realized something. They've created situations where if you've been paying attetion to the past episodes will give the joke or scenario a better pay off. "The Office" started doing this about 8 episodes in to season 2. "Arrested Development" on the other hand started doing these type of things since day 1. Does that make it bad? Not at all. It still makes it original and smarter than any show that has aired on television. The route "The Office" took was that they let peoples feet get wet before getting deep with the characters and show plot. The Offices rating were really low when it first started and slowly they've climbed there way to a safe ground. This is partly because of word of mouth and winning awards.
But after winning the Emmy's and word of mouth from the critics to the home viewer made its way around, "Arrested Development" was far too deep into character developments and twists for people to catch up. I realized this past week that with Arrested Development gone The Office is the only television excitement I look forward to every week. I do hope that Arrested Development gets renewed, but if it doesn't, TV rots your brain anyways. As my friend Danny would say, "Arrested Development, TV just wasn't ready for you".

David Cross hasnt done a chicken yet. That means the show can't end. We'll be waiting in limbo until someone buys us new episodes or better yet...Arrested Development the Motion Picture directed by Ron Howard, or better yet Spike Jonze, no David Fincher, wait Mark Romanek, James L Brooks? Too many to choose from. It's too bad on the show they couldnt show Maeby somehow casting the roles for the family. That would have been cool to see the actors they pick. Oh well. Im outy. Later.

Besides the storylines that were mentioned a couple of posts ago that could continue on the Bluth family antics...

We musn't forget that there are still several members of the family that have yet to do their CHICKEN rendition. And, well, I for one want to see them.

What could be better than Buster, George Micheal and Barry (Maeby, Micheal, Oscar, etc.) breaking into their own special chicken dance.

Justin (or a.k.a., Jeans Pants), Amanda and I were talking about the show tying up a lot of loose ends in this "season" (not series) finale. Yes, this could be the end for the show - and it might have been bad to leave so many cliff hangers. But as much as they resolved issues like George Michael and Maeby, George Bluth, the Iraq stuff, etc...

I think they've positioned themselves very carefully for the story to follow Michael and George Michael in... I forgot the island where the "get away house" is, there is the whole George Michael and Maeby being legally married, Lucille being the one now in prison or under house arrest.

Hopefully, people tuned in tonight to watch. And hopefully this isn't the end for the show, because... I've got a fever... and the only cure, is more Arrested Development. Ohh, I try to laugh, but I'm just so sad.

Well I think it's over.

I am going to miss it. I know theres still a chance but with the way it ended tonight I don't know. This show hopefully will stand the test of time and be remembered for the great comedy/original/outstanding show that it is...or was.
When the last episode aired Im not afraid to admit I came close to crying. That feeling has never come over me for a TV show. I guess a true fan of the show should wish good luck to all the writers/actors and crew who helped make the show what it is.
I know I havent kept this blog updated very well but I would like to thank all of you that helped us out in this fight to S.A.D. It's been good to know other people out there that love good quality shows unlike redundent unoriginal shows like "The OC" or "Bones". Again I am aware that this show may still have a chance but I am also aware that actors, writers etc can't wait weeks or months to find out if they still have jobs. Their going to have to find something to do.

Well, there's good news and bad news. The good news being we'll get a 2 hour brand new AD block on Feb10th. The bad news is it's up against the opening cerimony for the olympics. That's not really showing much faith, but at least we get to see it.

Also I heard that if ABC picks up AD they want 13 eps. If Showtime does, they want 2 seasons. I saw how ABC handled Sports Night. I'm thinking it's Showtime.

Fox announced Friday that the much-loved (but low-rated) comedy will have a two-hour season--not series--finale on Feb. 10, the night that NBC will air the opening ceremonies of the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Fox cut "Arrested Development" down to 13 episodes in its third season, but the network has not officially canceled the show. If it does, other networks are reportedly interested in bringing back the Emmy-winning comedy.

In the Feb. 10 finale, Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) finds out he may have a long-lost sister, Nellie, who'll be played by Bateman's real-life sister, Justine Bateman.

Meanwhile, Michael's brother, Gob Bluth, played by Will Arnett, joins a USO tour and takes his magic act to Iraq, only to end up in prison there.

I had a thought. Most of us are wondering when is FOX going to air the last 4 episodes of Arrested Development. I read somewhere earlier this year that Mitch Hurwitz, the producer, has a plan for the finale of the show if the show is indeed canceled. I believe FOX hasnt aired the last 4 episodes of Arrested because there not filmed yet. If our dreams come true and FOX renews it or Showtime or ABC buys it than they don't need to film a finale. Maybe instead a goodbye to FOX where they might make fun of the network. Oh well it's just my thought I had and I think it makes sense.

In this life, it's rare that things bring you so much joy.
Especially things like TV shows.

Well, Arrested Development brings me joy. Without it, I can guarantee you I will be sad. I will only have the past episodes to rely on. I will not have the future. I will no longer be able to anxiously await the surprise that comes with each and every new episode.

What will happen?
How gay is Tobias going to get? Is he going to continue on trying to be an actor? Will he get a part? Will he ever make it? Will he ever have sex with his wife again? will he die?

Are George Michael and Maeby gonna hook up again?

Hmm.. Will Buster grow up a little more? So many things-- army, Lucille, Lucille 2, loose seal, and even TEACHING LESSONS!? What next for Buster?? Hot for sister? Huh?

I just wanted to say welcome to all the new S-A-D members. This blog was started by Mike and myself (mostly Mike) as a way to try and spread the word that Arrested Development is a great show and try and help gain viewership. Last year for Christmas I gave my family season 1 and they didnt really get it. They didnt like it very much. I just took a vacation home and made them watch all of disc one and 1 episode of disc two and I am proud to say they seem to love it now. They laughed alot which is great.
Along with my family I've been able to convince my freinds Chris, Ryan, and alot of people at work to give the show a shot. Luckily they've all loved it and keep watching it.
It may seem cheesy to dedicate so much time to a TV show (and for what it's worth I do have a life) but with there being so much garbage on TV like "The War at Home" ,"Freddie", and everything, I feel this is worth my time and energy to put up a good fight. In my opnion TV really sucks and I've just been so happy since Arrested Developments been on I felt at times I've been watching really good Independent films and in a way they are.
Please keep spreading the word about Arrested Development and keep posting any new updates you may have learned. Even if you think we all know about it post it anyways. I for one am looking for the final Episode's(hopefully just for this season) airdate. Please let me know ASAP so I can throw a good bye party with my peeps. According to tv.com, there's supposed to be two new episodes next Monday: "Fakin it" and "Family Ties", but Fox has two episodes of House schedueled for next week.

Hello all.

This is another heresay post.

My sister came running into my parents bedroom last week exclaiming that someone else picked up AD for 13 episodes. She didn't remember who. I asked her if it was Showtime or ABC, and she said she didn't think so. She heard this on Entertainment Tonight, but I haven't heard anything since.

Anybody have any clue?

I guess Showtime and ABC have shown interest in buying Arrested Development once FOX is finished with it. Even though talks don't always lead to something it is still some good news and a good start. Bad news is that the Golden Globes didn't nomininate Arrested for anything. Eh Screw Hollywood Foreign Press.

This hasn't been confirmed yet - at least not that I know of - but rumor has it that Fox is keeping Arrested Development a little bit longer again!

They will be bringing it back for at least 13 more episodes.

Also, from that same source - the new episodes of AD will run an hour long every monday.

Turns out a girl has created a myspace page for saving Arrested Development - so far she has 120-something friends... perhaps we can join efforts to spread the word to Fox that they've "made a huge mistake". Here's a cut & paste from her about:

Something has to be done about the programming decision made at the Fox Network to cancel the smartest, funniest, two-time Emmy winningest show on tv. Let us all show Fox our outpouring of love and support for this show, instead of letting them use the outdated Nielsen system to determine its fate. Shows like Stacked, the way past its prime That 70's Show, and The War at Home mind-bogglingly remain on the air only because of the biased Nielsen Media Research, not because of their witty writing and stellar performances. This will be a repetetive post to anyone who visits my other blog. I just wanted to give one last plea to everyone to save this show. Ok it may not be my last but I really would like to ask all the fans of this show to take advantage of the holidays and buy the box sets to give to their family and freinds this year. [From Entertainment Weekly] Reporters weren't shouting questions at press conferences. Flags weren't lowered to half-mast or burned in protest. There were just a few lines in the papers noting that Fox had decided not to order more episodes of Arrested Development, a show averaging only 4.3 million viewers this season.

But to the few who watched, nay, worshipped that kinky single-camera series about the Bluths, a pathologically deluded Orange County family, it felt like this event merited 24/7, where-do-we-go-from-here? treatment. The network's confirmation last week that it wouldn't pick up the second half of Arrested's third season signals the apparent burial of a national comedy treasure. Rarely can such a term be applied to a show barely in the top 100, but this was a comedic comet of Halley-like proportions, a once-in-a-Blue-Man-Group...

Dear God,
It may childish and maybe a little selfish, but when I found out that Arrested Development may be getting canceled I honestly cried. It's just a TV show right, Well to me it's proof that there is something smart and engaging on television. You know there are lots of shows I have enjoyed in life but none of them have been as inteligent as this, some of them werent inteligent at all. As a kid in the 80's there was Family Ties, Growing Pains, Mr Belvedere...all the same show. The 80's did give us Married with children, great show. Honestly the first five seasons were hilarious. The 90's, Ok I wasn't a Seinfeld fan but I also know that it was a fresh inteligent show that I for some reason had trouble getting into. We also had The Simpsons, thanks God ,I'm so happy it's still on. One of the best shows of all time. Oh but who can forget that 90's gem Home Improvement, how did that become a hit, someone sell a sole? We also had Freinds, stop the booing. I enjoyed freinds, I thought it was funny, but the problemsthe characters faced werent very compelling. Will Ross leave Rachel, Does Rachel Love Joey, does Monica have a thing for Ross( we all wanted to see that), Does Joey have Herpes. Again I liked Freinds its just amazing how many viewers that show had and how so little Arrested Development has. Well God. Please help my show. Theres just too many characters I will miss if its gone. Ok I will try and give up porn if you help save my show. Thank you for listening. Later ~The Justin
